“Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day.” Psalm 25:5

There are moments when we desperately want God to show us what comes next. We want the answer, the direction, the open door—or sometimes just confirmation that we’re headed the right way.

But David’s prayer in Psalm 25 isn’t simply, “God, show me where to go.”

He asks God to lead him in truth and teach him.

That requires something from us: a willingness to be led.

Sometimes we ask God for direction while already having decided where we want to go. We pray for His guidance, but quietly hope He confirms the plan we’ve already made.

Surrender looks different.

It says, “God, I want Your way more than I want my way.”

And sometimes His leading comes quickly. Other times, it comes through waiting.

David ends this verse by saying, “On You I wait all the day.”

Waiting on God isn’t wasted time. It is often where He teaches us to trust Him without having every answer. It’s where our plans loosen their grip and our hearts become more willing to follow wherever He leads.

We may not always know what God is doing next.

But we can know the One who is leading us.

Reflect

Is there an area of your life where you’ve been asking God for direction?

Ask yourself honestly: Am I asking God to lead me—or am I asking Him to approve the direction I’ve already chosen?

Pray

Lord, lead me in Your truth and teach me. Help me surrender my plans, my timing, and my need to know what comes next. Give me a heart that wants Your way more than my own. When You ask me to wait, help me trust that You are still working. I surrender my direction to You, I trust where You lead, and I receive what You have for me. Amen.

Surrender. Trust. Receive.
