Keep God’s Word Close
Updated: Oct 5
“Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” Psalm 119:11
It’s easy to turn to God’s Word when we need an answer, encouragement, or direction.
But Scripture was never meant to be something we reach for only when life gets difficult. God invites us to keep His Word close—to know it, treasure it, and allow it to shape the way we live.
The psalmist says he has hidden God’s Word in his heart.
That means more than simply reading the Bible.
When we hide His Word in our hearts, His truth begins to influence our thoughts, our choices, our reactions, and even the things we desire. The more familiar we become with God’s voice through Scripture, the easier it becomes to recognize when something does not align with Him.
God’s Word also gives us something steady to hold onto when our emotions are not.
Feelings change. Circumstances change. Opinions change.
God’s Word does not.
There will be moments when fear tells us one thing, disappointment tells us another, and the world tells us something completely different. In those moments, we can return to what God has already spoken.
Keeping His Word close doesn’t mean we will never struggle or make mistakes. It means that when we do, we have truth stored within us to lead us back to Him.
The goal isn’t simply to know more Scripture.
It’s to know God more deeply through His Word—and allow what He says to change the way we live.
Reflect
What truth from God’s Word do you need to keep close in this season?
Think about an area where your thoughts, emotions, or circumstances have been speaking loudly. What does Scripture say that you can hold onto instead?
Pray
Lord, help me treasure Your Word and keep it close to my heart. When other voices become loud, remind me of what You have spoken. Let Your truth shape my thoughts, guide my decisions, correct me when I wander, and draw me closer to You. Help me not only read Your Word, but live it. I surrender what I’m carrying, I trust You with it, and I receive the truth and direction You have for me. Amen.
Surrender. Trust. Receive.
